Strijdom van der Merwe is an award-winning South African artist based in Stellenbosch. He is a founding member of Site_Specific South Africa, and was a member of the curatorial panel for World Design Capital Cape Town. He served as Co-curator of the exhibition ‘30 Nature Artists in the World’ and the ‘Global Monadic Art Project’ in South Korea. Strijdom’s diverse academic background includes studying at the University of Stellenbosch, Hooge School voor de Kunste (the Netherlands), the Academy of Art and Architecture (Czech Republic) and the Kent Institute or Art and Design (England). Strijdom’s’ commissioned work and residency invitations include countries such as South Korea, Belgium, Denmark, the United States of America, Lithuania and more. Additionally, he has held numerous solo and group exhibitions and his work is locally and internationally known. Strijdom has many accolades such as the Jackson Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant, a medal of honour from the South African Academy of Arts and Sciences, amongst several others.
